Currently, 20CrNiMo (AISI 8620) carburized alloy steel, with its excellent comprehensive performance and high cost-effectiveness, is gradually replacing traditional stainless steel and duplex steel materials and has become the mainstream preferred material for the precision CNC machining of ball valve balls. Compared with materials such as 316L and 2205, the greatest advantage of this material is that it does not require the expensive Samteley cobalt-based alloy overlay welding process. By simply undergoing mature carburizing and quenching heat treatment, it can achieve a surface hardness of HRC 58-62, which combines extremely strong wear resistance and resistance to medium erosion. At the same time, the core part of the part has sufficient toughness, which can withstand high-pressure impact and frequent opening and closing-induced wear, effectively avoiding problems such as ball cracking and seal surface detachment.
From a process perspective, the 20CrNiMo material is suitable for high-precision CNC turning and milling combined processing, enabling precise formation of complex structures such as spherical surfaces, internal holes, and pressure relief holes. The dimensional tolerance and sealing accuracy are excellent, and the processing loss is low, with high efficiency, significantly reducing the machining production cost. In mainstream high-pressure industrial working conditions without strong corrosion, this material perfectly achieves the dual advantages of high performance and low cost, and its full life cycle cost performance far exceeds traditional alloy hardening schemes.
At present, the precision processing of 20CrNiMo material for split ball-shaped track ball valves has been widely applied in various high-end industrial fluid control systems. The equipment failure rate has significantly decreased, and the operation and maintenance cycle has been significantly extended. Industry trends indicate that with the continuous upgrading of industrial high-pressure working conditions standards, this material will be further popularized and become the standardized selection for core components of medium and high-pressure track ball valves, helping the oil and chemical industry improve the quality and cost, operate safely and efficiently.
