Challenges in the processing of the High-precision ss316 annular flanges / sleeve-type machined parts:


1. Long thin-walled structure → prone to deformation and vibrationDifficulty: The cylinder is relatively long and the wall is thin, with a large length-to-diameter

ratio. During turning, it is easily affected by cutting forces and thermal stress, causing issues such as tool deflection, taper, ovality, and chatter, leading to out-of-tolerance cylindricity and straightness.

Impact: The dimensional accuracy of the inner hole/external round surface is difficult to ensure, the roughness of the sealing surface deteriorates, and jamming or leakage may occur during assembly.


2. Multiple External Circular Annular Sealing Grooves → Groove Consistency and Efficiency

Difficulty: The grooves are numerous, with small spacing and thin walls, making it easy during machining to encounter inconsistent groove width/depth, uneven groove bottoms, and vibration marks. During mass production, it is difficult to ensure uniform groove spacing.

Impact: Improper installation of the sealing rings, resulting in sealing failure; groove shape errors causing assembly interference.


3. Concentricity / Perpendicularity of Flange Threaded Hole and Inner Hole

Difficulty: The flange threaded hole must maintain high-precision concentricity with the inner hole, and the flange surface must be perpendicular to the inner hole. Multiple re-clamping can easily cause reference deviation.

Impact: Uneven force when bolts are connected can lead to leakage at the sealing surface or fatigue fracture of the part.


4. Cutting characteristics of SS316 material → Tool wear and machining efficiency

Difficulty: SS316 has high viscosity, poor thermal conductivity, and a strong tendency for work hardening. During cutting, it easily sticks to the tool, forms built-up edges, and causes rapid tool wear, resulting in poor surface roughness and dimensional variation.

Impact: Low machining efficiency, high costs, and difficulty in meeting surface quality standards.


5. Geometric Tolerances and Sealing Surface Accuracy

Difficulty: The inner hole, outer circle, flange surface, and sealing groove are all critical fits/sealing surfaces, requiring high-precision dimensional tolerances, geometric tolerances, and low surface roughness (Ra0.8~Ra1.6).

Impact: Directly determines sealing performance, assembly accuracy, and service life.
