Working Principle of Metal Bellow Expansion Joints

Core Components and Functions:

· Bellows: The bellows is the core component of the expansion joint, made of multiple layers of thin metal sheets processed through special techniques. It is capable of freely expanding and contracting in high-temperature and high-pressure environments, providing sufficient flexibility to absorb thermal expansion in pipelines. The corrugated structure of the bellows not only grants it excellent expansion and contraction capabilities but also provides it with outstanding fatigue resistance.

Working Principle:

· Elastic Deformation Compensation: The working principle of the Metal Bellow Expansion Joint mainly involves utilizing the elastic deformation capabilities of the bellows to compensate for axial, angular, lateral, and combined displacements in pipelines caused by thermal deformation, mechanical deformation, and various mechanical vibrations. This compensation function has properties such as pressure resistance, sealing, corrosion resistance, temperature resistance, impact resistance, vibration reduction, and noise reduction, which help reduce pipeline deformation and extend pipeline service life.

· Adaptive Expansion and Contraction: When temperature or pressure changes occur in the pipeline, the bellows section of the Metal Bellow Expansion Joint will produce corresponding expansion or bending movements. This adaptive expansion and contraction function effectively absorbs pipeline deformation, thereby avoiding issues such as pipeline rupture or connection leakage.

Structural Auxiliary Components and Functions:

· Connecting Pieces: The ends of the expansion joint are connected to the pipeline system through connecting pieces. Common connection methods include flange connections and welded connections, which are selected based on the actual design requirements of the pipeline system.

· Tie Rods and Support Devices: To restrict irregular movement of the expansion joint within the pipeline, tie rods and support devices are usually equipped. These devices help stabilize the expansion joint at a fixed position in the pipeline while preventing excessive deformation of the bellows.

· Protective Sleeves: To prevent damage to the bellows from the external environment, the expansion joint is typically designed with a protective sleeve. This sleeve effectively prevents corrosive gases, liquids, and other factors from harming the bellows, thereby extending the service life of the equipment.
